Kennington Swimming Club

Swimmer powering along pool

As in previous years, we are pleased to report that we can continue to offer low cost swimming at Radley College Pool.

Kennington Swimming Club was formed in the spring of 1985. Radley College pool had been upgraded with a grant from the Sports Council with a condition being that facilities be opened up to the local community. The late Mrs Bea Savage was offered 3 half hour slots a week and her aim was to offer friendly family swimming to Kennington residents. With the help of a few friends and the necessity to advertise over a wider area, the club was formed and the first swimming session took place on May 6th 1985.

By the time of the first AGM in March 1986, the club had grown to the viable number of 249 members from Kennington and the surrounding area. Since then, with the help of a small management committee, the club has continued. However, with the opening of many more leisure facilities in the area, we no longer have a waiting list and are now able to welcome new members.

While we do separate children and more social swimmers from the more serious swimmers, we are unable to offer “Lane swimming” and would like to stress this is a family swimming club.

The swimming sessions are:

Monday evenings 8.00 to 8.30 pm
Saturday mornings 9.00 to 10.00 am
